History of Preserving Flowers

The practice of preserving flowers has been around for thousands of years. In ancient Egypt, flowers played an important role in funeral rituals. To help them last, dried flowers, plants, and herbs were placed inside the tombs of pharaohs. One of the oldest preserved flowers was discovered in a Roman tomb in Egypt, dating back over 2,000 years. Though its colors had faded, the flower remained intact, proving that flowers can withstand the test of time when properly preserved.

Life of Cut Roses

If you've received roses on Valentine's Day, you can expect them to stay fresh for 5 to 7 days. However, with the right care and attention, you can extend their beauty for up to two weeks. Proper trimming, fresh water, and the right environment make all the difference.

How to Preserve Your Valentine’s Day Roses

There are a lot of ways to preserve your Valentine’s Day Roses. Here are some of them.

1. Air-Dry Your Roses

 • Gather the stems and tie them together with a string or rubber band.

 • Hang them upside down in a dark, dry, and well-ventilated area.

 • Allow them to dry for two to three weeks until they feel crisp to the touch.

    2. Press Your Roses

     • Place individual rose petals or whole blooms between two sheets of parchment paper.

     • Press them inside a heavy book and leave them undisturbed for two to four weeks.

     • Once fully dried, use them in creative projects.

      3. Preserve with Silica Gel

       • Pour silica gel into a container and carefully place your roses inside.

       • Gently cover them completely with more silica gel.

       • Seal the container and leave it for a week or more to fully dry.

        4. Make Rose Water or Rose Oil

         • Rose Water: Boil fresh rose petals in distilled water, strain, and store in a spray bottle for a refreshing mist.

         • Rose Oil: Soak dried petals in a carrier oil (like almond or jojoba oil) for 2-3 weeks to create a fragrant, nourishing oil.

          5. Create a Rose Resin

           • Dry your roses

           • Pour Clear Resin into a Mold and add the rose and let it set.

           • Cure for 24-48 Hours

Roses may not last forever, but their beauty can be preserved in many ways. Whether you choose to air-dry them, press them, or turn them into rose water or resin keepsakes, these methods allow you to hold onto the love that you've received on Valentine's day. Try one of these techniques and let your roses continue to remind you of care, appreciation, and happiness for weeks, months, or even years to come.
